Rank qualification rules explained

PV, GV, leg requirements, grace periods and how ranks drive every other bonus.

Why ranks exist

Ranks are the control panel of a compensation plan. They decide how deep a distributor is paid, which caps apply, which pools they share in and which recognition they receive. Almost every bonus references rank, so qualification rules deserve care.

The building blocks

Most rank ladders use a mix of four measures.

  • Personal volume (PV): what the distributor and their own customers buy in the period
  • Group volume (GV): PV of everyone in the downline, often with a per-leg maximum so one strong leg cannot carry the rank
  • Leg requirements: a number of legs each containing someone of a given rank (for example, three Gold legs)
  • Active frontline: a count of personally sponsored members who are active

Leg caps

Without a per-leg cap, a distributor with one huge leg qualifies for top rank while doing no building. A typical rule is that no more than 40 to 60 percent of required GV may come from a single leg. DIRSL supports percentage caps and absolute caps per leg.

Qualification period and grace

Ranks are usually evaluated monthly. A paid-as rank is the rank you qualify for this period; a recognition rank is the highest you have ever achieved. Bonuses use paid-as rank. Grace periods let a leader keep their paid-as rank for one or two months after missing requirements, which smooths income during slow seasons.

Lifetime ranks, where a rank once achieved is never lost, are simple but expensive; most plans reserve them for recognition only.

Rank advancement bonuses

One-time cash bonuses on first achieving a rank are powerful but need maintenance rules, such as holding the rank for two consecutive months before payment, to prevent one-month spikes.

Configuring ranks on DIRSL

The rank builder lets you define any number of ranks, each with PV, GV, leg-cap, leg-rank and active-frontline requirements, plus grace months, advancement bonus and the bonus depth it unlocks. Simulation shows how many members would hold each rank under new rules before you publish.
